Jones Creek Glassworks®
A Brief History
In February 1981,
as many of my customers have done, I began a class to learn the basics of the copper foil
method of stained glass construction. Since then I have learned on my own while
producing a varied collection of pieces including round and rectangular panels, free-form
(irregular borders which are integrated into the design) art pieces, a few panel lamps, and boxes.
Then, in February 2007 (this is the long story short version), I came to a crossroads in my professional life
and chose a new path. Jones Creek Glassworks was born and the doors opened at 419
SW Coast Highway in Newport, Oregon on May 17, 2007.
Closed the Newport shop doors August 15, 2010 in order to open new doors.

Will check messages daily;
let me know a good time to call you back.
July 2008 Update:
It was a very good year . . .
The business is growing and I've become acquainted with the greatest people! I love to chat with customers about their projects. Thanks to special requests,
I've learned to stock my shop. Three things that I thought I would not be doing are now featured
in sign form on my shop windows - Repairs, Lessons, Gifts. You just roll with it and make the most of what
the universe puts in your path. I am thrilled with how much I have learned about my craft by taking on
repair jobs. Doing semi-private lessons gives me a chance to share what I know, but I learn
so much in the process. Filling the need for smaller ticket items has given me a new outlet
to exercise my artistic muscle. I'm having fun. I wonder what the next year will bring . . .I think it will be good.
February 2009 Update:
It was a very interesting winter . . .
The business keeps growing in spite of (or, maybe, because of) the economy. Many of you have found me for the first time this year.
Kirby and I recently took out "the wall" and moved my work space into the center of the shop. It's fun
to show people what I'm working on any given day and I have more room for students. I began doing commissioned
pieces this year. Working to parameters prescribed, at least in part, by the prospective owner of an object
of art brings a new kind of feel to the work. In many ways, it is invigorating. I'm still having fun and
look forward to sticking around. I'm still smiling!
March 2010 Update:
Expaned Work Area, New Days, New Blog . . .Still Here!
Bringing my work area out into the open, visible from the street, was so good it made sense to
make it bigger. Now, there's more room for projects and comfort area for students. I'm anticipating
bringing my work to a few craft markets in Newport this summer, so changing hours to Monday through
Friday seems a good move. Several factors played a role in stopping the newsletter in favor of the
blog. The blog is dynamic and provides a way for input and questions from readers. Spring is giving me renewed energy
and I see it in other folks, too. It's coming slow, but the economy is showing signs of picking up. My fingers are crossed
and I'm working hard. Let's go for another year and see what happens!
August/September 2010 Update:
It's time to move into my private studio in Seal Rock! The storefront on Highway 101 in Newport is
closed. Moving my work area out from behind "the wall" in the shop last year was a response to the need
for more studio space. Moving out of the storefront altogether is a response to the need for more studio time. Lessons will follow the same format as always:
private or semi- private by appointment at my home studio. We will just see how the rest evolves. I'm still smiling and looking
forward to the next chapter . . .
